How much do you know about sustainable development?

I haven't posted anything since April 2012. I have no valid excuse except that I was struggling with time management. In the meantime, it was business as usual in the global sustainable scene. Whatever my class of Nov 2012 learnt from Dr Bosselmann in our Sustainability Law class proved to be known and appreciated by very few globally. The ignorant global majority include many leaders of the world. How can I blame my fellow citizens for their ignorance of sustainability issues when our very own leaders seem to have no clue about climate change? At an environmental conference held in University of Malaya last year, all participants heard how our very own Malaysian government representatives to the 'RIO+20 failed summit' were observed to be elegantly missing at the conference site when most of the major issues were being thrashed out. Perhaps they were on the beach. No wonder the summit failed. It was very obvious during that conference that environmental issues are not on the forefront of our government action plan. Yes, we have seen the press statements and seminar papers of how environmental issues are being tackled but are they really serious about it? Is anyone telling Malaysians how oil is getting scarce around the world and that once our own reserves deplete, we haven't really got a reliable plan to tackle our own energy issues when that happens? Is anyone telling Malaysians how food may become so scarce in the next 50 years as we are slowly importing more food than growing them? We are now in fact a manufacturing country, not an agricultural one - in case some of you are still living in the 1980s and don't know that for a fact. To my peers, most of you are educated. Some of you are even more educated than most of us in this country so please don't turn a blind eye. Take heed of our sustainability issues because this would affect you, me, your kids and mine, your homes and mine, your world and mine. There will be no exceptions and no, not only African countries need to take steps. It is everyone's problem. Learn how our daily actions are killing our future, affecting climate change, destroying our own world, our children's world and their children's world..The things that we take for granted everyday has an impact on how our lives will be in the future. Enough for now. Let's watch this video, for a start. Here's the URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XuRYkkhcLj8#t=240
